Music Mondays… Week 2 (Why am I a failure)

7 Feb

Well I’m terribly uncommitted to this this week! Just a bit tired and lazy after a weekend of over indulgence.

I don’t plan to fail, I fail to plan! that line was drilled in to me through 5 years of secondary school in this stupid study skills class we had.

I got to the point on friday night where I was so drunk and felt so guilty that I had done  no exercise for the week AND was eating Eddie Rockets!! I stood in the middle of thew restaurant, 4a.m. and I began doing press ups!!

When asked what I was doing by my friends I replied “What do you expect me to do just stand here and do nothing!!” (Made complete sense to me!).

To the music…

Just one song on my mind this week and it was brought about by the second night of partying this week! It was a party for my friend Dara! She’s going away to live in London and have a real job!!

We had an absolutely amazing night! (Well I did anyway).

During the night I got control of the music because her iPod died. Out comes the iPhone to the rescue!

I had the perfect song… Extremely apt, emotional it started a trend of group singing and dancing for the rest of the night! I was very happy with myself*…

The song was….

I also played this (cause I just can’t get enough of it! I realised halfway through it however that it may have been quite an insensitive choice!)

*I was also very fearful of being in control of the music I worry about pleasing my audience! (P.s. Friend I am over it!!)

Love Never Dies…

Laura Izibor

Rolling Stone, Artist To Watch

This girl is my new favourite. So far I’ve only heard a couple of songs. She’s released 2 songs so far “From my heart to yours” is great, but “Shine” is an Amazing song it’s kinda a pick me up song… it makes me happy anyway. Ya Know it it’s on that Hibernian/Aviva Ad.

I Love that she’s from Dublin, she’s like the new Samantha Mumba. I don’t know if that would be a compliment for her but Sam is a Legend. Laura’s probably gonna do great in America, Samantha had some bad luck there… After her success with “gotta tell you” it’s like she had no follow through or something. I was devo for her…

but anyway, Laura,

She’s real:

Beyoncé-esque, No?

Beyoncé-esque, No?

“My mother raised five kids on her own, so there wasn’t much time to buy records ? it wasn’t that kind of home. I found myself fancying music at about 13.”

“I just fell in love with soul music” – She’s got soul but she’s not a Soldier (we don’t have them in Ireland)

When she was 15, she won  “2FM Song Contest.”

She’s been working on her album “Let The Truth Be Told”  for FOUR YEARS, since she was like 17. I don’t know if that’s impressive, it is to me! It just makes me think that she has taken the time to perfect her songs and have a good run at this whole getting famous thing. I respect that but if it takes another 4 years for a follow up nobody’s gonna be happy.

She’s recorded the album all over… New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Dublin being some of the places

She’s been gigging all over getting herself known, the girl’s been busy like…She’s opened for acts including James Brown and John Legend and sold-out a couple of shows here in Ireland, Seems she’s gotten herself quite a fan-base.

Laura and John

Laura and John

According to her website,

she’s earned the affectionate moniker “The Soul of Ireland” from the folks back home.

The album is 100% her,”I’ve written this album because it’s my truth. It’s a sincere record and it has a feel of survival in it as well.”

She decided against featuring other artists on the album because apparently she wants success based on her own merits. “I didn’t want to be anybody’s protégé,”  I like it that’s real to me. She’s written the whole album  herself, and co produced it, she deserves the glory…

Having her tracks featured on Grey’s Anatomy and The Hills wins me over immediately anyway.

“I hope people take away a sense of honesty and realness in the record. They’re just songs written from a really sincere place, and hopefully people can connect to it on some level and relate their own lives to it as well.”

I’ve related my life to shine already, Great song… There’re some good tunes bangning about on her website and itunes have some of her stuff…

Unforch her album is not out yet and i can’t seem to find the release date but keep an eye out for it and we can judge it together…

I Like her outlook, She’s great really…

“Life is good. Music is amazing. It’s just a great, unusual thing to be doing what I love, and I’m genuinely grateful. I come from a working class family, so my bothers and sisters and my mother worked so many jobs their whole life, just trying to provide for us. That’s why I’m extremely humbled and grateful to be able to do something that is not only what I love, but pretty unbelievable.”

The girls Hott, if nothing else…

and she’s got style, can’t argue with that…

America’s Next Top Model?

My Top 5 Things About London

30 Mar

5. The Buzz.

Everywhere you go there are people, a ridiculous amount of people busily going about their daily lives. There’s just an atmosphere i don’t know what it is. London has this magical quality that you just don’t feel in Ireland. Don’t get me wrong I love my country very much but London is like a great escape into a different world that’s really close to home… It’s a nice place to escape to…

Oh and everyone has an iPhone!! I NEED One!!!

It's Amazing

It's Amazing

4. Phone Boxes.

They’re part of the scenery, London without Phone Boxes just wouldn’t be London at all…

Also an interesting fact is  That BT has adapted payphones for text, email and internet and offers communities the chance to hang on to their local phone by ‘adopting’ or ‘sponsoring’ the kiosk.

So perhaps here in Ireland Eircom were a little too quick off the mark when they decided to remove over 2,000 phone boxes around the country phone boxes without exploring the potential they have to offer. Deputy Ring pointed to the UK where

They described payphones as obsolete technology. That’s Not what BT have to say… They were fairly short-sighted.

Payphones are a fairly useful resource for tourists and the last thing we should be doing is removing services which visitors to our country rely upon.

Fine Gael’s    ” ‘Think outside the phone box’ appeal ” Believe Eircom were fairly foolish…

3. The Price.

Right know the exchange rate is Brilliant!!

1 Euro = 0.927683616 British pounds-ish

And yet there are things like this lovely Hoodie I got in river island London for £30 which over here is Like €55

It should cost approximately €33 here…. so going to London you actually get your moneys worth….

2. The West End.

The amazing “Theatreland” that is London’s west end… So far I’ve not been to london without attending a show… Musicals are my life… My life should be a musical etc…

In this particular trip to London i went to see ‘Joseph and his amazing technicolor Dreamcoat’

Gareth Gates played Joseph it was really good, my favourite character is the narrator and she was played by the understudy the day i went to see it which i decided to myself was much better than the real thing you feel like they’re putting their all in because this is their chance To Shine!!!

How I Love my coat of many colours…

Gareth was runner-up in the first ever Pop Idol in 2002.  He has since had four number one singles and sold 3.5 million records to date.He was then subsequently forgotten by all but a few (Orla Hearne ) and he faded to grey.  Earlier this year, Gareth appeared in ITV1’s Dancing on Ice. Coming back as the star of Joseph has kinda shot him from Grey to Technicolour overnight…

The funniest thing in my entire experience of the show however was how he credited himself in the programme for having taken part in a documentary called “whatever happened to Gareth Gates?” Is that not in any way embarrassing???

I really like him though…

overcoming his stammer stammer and all….

He’s endearing…

I Loved This Song…

1. The Tube.

The London Underground! THE most amazing transport system I’ve ever experienced… It just Works!

You can get on anywhere AT ALL and just make it to your destination no matter what, a couple of connecting trains and Bam! you’re there… no hassle at all.. you’re never really left waiting Long for a train… it’s so fast, you don’t even realise you’re twisting and turning or how deep underground you are… It is the THE thing that makes London so amazing. It’s a Pioneer In transport systems… The longest metro system in the world apparently.

And it’s relatively cheap it was like £5.40 for a day ticket (off peak which meant we just couldn’t travel before 9am, but your on your holidays why would ya) for zones 1 and 2 which is the major part of London…
